Organizations seeking to build and strengthen their privacy programs in 2022 face a range of challenges – the proliferation of data, an evolving regulatory landscape, ongoing challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and many more.

All of these dynamics call upon organizations to clearly communicate their privacy policies and procedures as they evolve their approach to data privacy and governance.

“In 2022, corporate transparency will be of the utmost importance,” said Safia Kazi, ISACA privacy professional practices associate. “Organizations that are honest about the data they collect and build systems with data subjects’ privacy as a high priority can gain the trust of their clients and possibly avoid hefty fines associated with noncompliance.”

ISACA has identified five “must-dos” for a successful privacy program in 2022:

  1. Effectively manage and understand the data you already have.
  2. Stay up to date on relevant regulatory requirements.
  3. Obtain organization-wide buy-in for privacy.
  4. Anticipate the effects of COVID-19 on your organization.
  5. Think of privacy as value-add, not a burden.

Executing the above steps allows enterprises to build stronger trust with customers as well as achieve improved operational efficiency.
